Introducing Evan Bucherer
As part of the Geo North team, Evan brings more than 20 years’ experience as an engineering geologist working as a trusted geotech consultant in Northland, across New Zealand and internationally. He holds a BSc (Geology) from the University of Auckland and has led and managed projects ranging from small-scale site assessments through to large and complex developments, covering all stages from site investigation and reporting through to construction.
His project experience includes residential subdivisions and house sites, often involving challenging site constraints, as well as Council infrastructure and commercial developments.
Technically, his work spans the full range of engineering geological practice, including the planning and supervision of site investigations, hand augering, field logging, supervision and operation of drill rig and CPT equipment, laboratory testing, aerial photo interpretation, slope stability analysis, stormwater attenuation and wastewater disposal assessments, through to the preparation of the final geotechnical report.
Your local geotech consultant in Northland
Evan relocated to Northland more than 10 years ago to establish a local geotechnical presence in the region and has worked here ever since. In this time he has developed extensive experience across the diverse geology of Northland. He has worked with a wide range of clients including homeowners, small to large companies, the Ministry of Education, and the District Authorities throughout the region.
To date, Evan has authored more than 500 geotechnical reports in Northland. When project requirements call for additional expertise or resourcing, Geo North works collaboratively with a network of trusted engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers from across New Zealand to support project delivery.

At Geo North, you deal directly with the engineer carrying out the investigation and preparing the report. As a trusted geotech consultant, there are no hand-offs or multiple layers of consultants, so you always know who has assessed your site. We manage projects from the initial site visit through to the final report and are available to discuss the findings and recommendations at every stage.
We are based locally which means we understand Northland ground conditions not just from maps and data, but from real on-the-ground experience. We specialise in geotechnical reports and landslide assessments, particularly for challenging sites common in the Whangārei, Bream Bay, Mangawhai, and Kaipara areas. We know where peat is likely to show up, how coastal sands behave, and how rainfall and groundwater affect slope stability in this part of the country. That local knowledge makes a real difference when it comes to giving practical advice.
